The only thing I don't particularly like about it is that Po learns these immense kung fu secrets in the span of one movie. The love of what they're doing really shines through and makes them hugely enjoyable to me. They aren't just love letters to kung fu movies but they are legitimately good kung fu movies on their own, and the way they integrate the animal characteristics into each character's fighting style shows real thought and deep understanding of what they're doing. KFP is the best series Dreamworks has made and I fully believe it's because the team behind it absolutely 100% loves the source material and what they're doing with like every fiber of their being. Also, the Chinese rendition of Kung Fu Fighting is totes beautiful. However, I do really love the hopelessness of the situation before Po's bright idea, and especially that dragon scene because everything graceful went out the window when he started bragging. Didn't care for the villain, the Furious Five felt even more sorely underused than otherwise, and I don't feel Po's time in the panda village was particularly developed beyond superficial jokes about panda behavior and interactions with some extras, meaning the inevitable fight and climax didn't feel as earned. Only film in the series to make me cry.ģ was weaker and I would argue the worst in the series, although it's still an entertaining film. The use of bold, flat colors for thematic purposes alone still delights me, as does the use of 2D and 3D switching for an emotional impact (again, Po's mom). An empathetic, ruthless villain that wasn't totally humiliated in the end, a solid emotional core and scene from Po learning about his mom and coming to terms with his adoption, and an art direction to absolute die for. Feel like 2 was the strongest of the series.
